Who we are

Calex was formed in 1997. Its primary focus is to design, deliver, consult and manage innovative learning programmes within the retail automotive sector in the UK and overseas. Calex consists of approximately 150 staff. Most staff are based at our clients training facilities across the UK and overseas. We also have a team developing new materials and business development.

What we do

We specialise in working within the retail automotive sector with many large automotive manufacturers delivering custom-built learning and development programmes to maximise the skill levels and productivity of today's employees. Calex believe in use of technology to help deliver today’s training needs. Many of our programmes now incorporate the use of Virtual Delivery platforms, learning apps and remote assessment to ensure that learning is available at all times to suit the business and also the employee. People like to learn through their own research using social media, YouTube and other media so why shouldn’t formal delivery be the same?

Calex are pleased to announce that we have been successful in being added to the New Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers to deliver apprenticeships for levy paying employers. The new register aims to create a more structured process to allowing training providers to deliver apprenticeships and tap into the levy accounts of larger employers. Non levy employers will also be able to use Calex for apprenticeships but will go through a slightly different process paying just 10% of the apprenticeship funds to the training provider. London Taxi Company has now moved into the fantastic new facility in Ansty Coventry. Within the new facility there will be the creation of 1000 new job roles including 200 new engineers and 30 apprentices. London Taxi Company aims to produce 20,000 vehicles per year when in full production. Additional to the new TX5 Range Extender Taxi there will be a new zero emission capable commercial vehicle using a similar range extender platform, the first of its kind. The LTC Apprenticeship Programme is now coming towards its second year and will be recruiting new starts this summer.



Calex are pleased to be working with Looop learning app to create new modules for learning on the move. Looop is a great tool to develop material to enhance delivery and reinforce learning of specific subjects. Calex have developed a number of short modules recently to promote key aspects of the apprenticeship programmes such as safeguarding and the Prevent agenda. We are able to use the built in analytics to monitor usage and success of learners and also feedback to create changes or new modules. Try Looop at www.looop.co it’s a great learning tool.

Somit Solutions

Somit Solutions, a subsidiary of Calex is starting a new project to develop a new handheld diagnostic tool for Jaguar Cars. This new handheld device will be able to provide vital service operation functions and detailed diagnostic routes for Jaguar vehicles from 2000 to 2006 model year. Current OE equipment is not supporting these older vehicles so this will provide a support function for Jaguar retailers and specialists across the globe.

Media and Virtual

Virtual delivery has become a very important element in how Calex deliver training across our client base.

The use of the virtual classroom platform has shown to be able to deliver greater training days across the Peugeot Citroën Retailer Network. This is done simply by giving total flexibility to employers to enrol their staff on courses at short notice and at much lower costs. Whilst virtual does not take the place of all learning, such as practical skills development, it is really making an impact across adult and apprenticeship delivery.

With the New Apprenticeship Standard now available for Light Vehicle Maintenance we have the ability to be able to deliver key modules of the curriculum through the virtual platform to help the apprentices to continue to learn and develop when they are back at their place of work. In this way when they attend their training at the Academy we can concentrate on the key practical skills required to complete the gateway assessments and final end point assessment.

Agile Approach

We use an agile approach to learning to provide the right learning to the right people at the right time using the right delivery method for the learning to take place.

The agile approach to the leadership programme allows access to learning materials, business theories and their practical application through pre-bookable sessions that are delivered by high impact attended sessions, workshops that explore ways in which the business leader can apply the theories and frameworks to their business.

Virtual Sessions

Leaders can also book on virtual sessions, which include one to one executive coaching and mentoring and access to a core range of subjects. These allow the business leaders to develop their knowledge and consider the ways in which they can be moulded to help their business evolve.

Virtual sessions allow the learner to access the latest business learning without the long drive to a course and without the overnight stay. Sessions can be booked right up to just a few minutes before and all offer face to face interaction with their coach/host.

Interaction between fellow business leaders is also afforded by the use of video link up to allow the benefits of face to face communication with peers to take place, so that an exchange of ideas and a collaborative approach to learning can take place.

Resources are made available for viewing and/or download so that leaders have constant access to a wide range of tools and frameworks, videos and other mixed media formats. This allows an “on demand” feel to the offering and taps in to the leader’s moment of need.

The virtual sessions require a laptop or desktop that has a webcam and microphone but can also be accessed via the adobe connect app on most smartphones. On-demand offerings are available using the same means, which means that the business leader truly can engage with a wide range of subjects while “on the go”, at their place of work or at home.

The blended approach to delivery used on the leadership programme means that the learner is in control of their own development and we have found higher levels of engagement as a result.
